– Experimental Technologist/Technician

Job Summary:

The Experimental Technologist/Technician will execute custom thermomechanical test programs in Noetic’s Edmonton test laboratory and maintain the test systems to operate with high degree of accuracy and reliability. The Experimental Technologist/Technician will provide support to other team members in setting up and executing customized test programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute complex customized mechanical and thermomechanical tests on a range of material samples using servo-hydraulic test system in Noetic’s Coupon Testing System (CTS).
  • Execute customized testing including sealability testing, load testing, and flow testing.
  • Create manufacturing drawings of test specimens and test fixturing.
  • Co-ordinate and oversee manufacturing of test specimens and test fixturing with an emphasis on proactive quality control.
  • Manage and update material and specimen tracking databases.
  • Calibrate and maintain traceability requirements of test system hardware and instrumentation.
  • Process and interpret test data, identifying key parametric relationships, and effectively communicate these to project managers.
  • Maintain coupon testing hydraulic system.
  • Set-up data acquisition systems for a variety of test programs.
  • Continuously review and measure the effectiveness of standardized testing procedures. Revise or develop new operating procedures where applicable to remove unnecessary process steps and/or data entry and record keeping.
  • Work closely with safety committee to develop, implement and continuously improve safety programs.

Knowledge and Skills:

A diploma in mechanical, instrumentation or materials engineering technology or relevant experience. All levels of experience will be considered. Ability to work well independently and willingness to draw on experience of support team as required. Attention to detail. Ability to work planned overtime as required. Hands-on skills. Scientific curiosity. Understanding of measurement and instrumentation physics and computerized data acquisition systems. ASET certification/membership an asset. Labview programming experience would be an asset. Ability to learn new skills quickly.
