API E&P Standards Winter Meeting, January 21-25

January 7, 2019

Jarek Nowinka and Dan Dall’Acqua attended the 2019 API Exploration and Production Winter Standards Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. This conference brought together operators, manufacturers, service companies, and consultants for the purpose of developing and improving API standards. Noetic’s contributions were focused primarily on standards related to tubulars, connections, and materials, and their appropriate use in various oil and gas applications.

2018 Thermal Well Integrity and Design Symposium

November 30, 2018

Members of the Noetic and Volant team participated in the 2018 SPE Thermal Well Integrity and Design Symposium in Banff, Alberta from November 26 to 29. Our team enjoyed the opportunity to connect with members of the thermal well community in a beautiful venue to learn about industry advancements and perspectives, and to contribute to the Symposium as much as possible. Noetic’s Mark Chartier was a member of the Symposium organizing committee, and co-chaired both a technical session on Cement Design and a breakout session on Wellbore Cleanouts and Remediation. A complete agenda is available here, and the various SPE papers prepared for the Symposium are available for purchase on the OnePetro.org website.

Mark Chartier and Trent Kaiser delivered a pre-symposium training course on "Considerations for Thermal Well Design". Attendees received an introduction to strain-based design considerations for thermal well tubular systems. Noetic periodically offers one-day and multi-day training courses to provide tubular design insights to engineers new to the thermal well industry.

Noetic staff members delivered two presentations at the Symposium, both associated with SPE papers:

• Dan Dall’Acqua presented our paper SPE 193363, “Unified Basis for Thermal Casing/Connection System Design”.

• Mark Chartier presented our paper SPE 193356, “Addressing Thermal Loading Uncertainties for Liner Design”.

Noetic’s Trent Kaiser also co-authored SPE paper 193362 “SAGD Production Casing Failure Diagnosis and Repair” with representatives from Suncor Energy.

URTeC 2018, July 23 – 25, 2018

July 30, 2018

Dan Dall’Acqua attended the URTeC Unconventional Resources Technology Conference in Houston, Texas, from July 23 to 25, 2018. The conference offered an extensive technical program focused on advancement of technology for unconventional applications, and excellent opportunities for networking. Highlights included technical sessions focused on unconventional Drilling & Completions, the Hydraulic Fracture Test Site, Induced Seismicity, and Technologies Expected to Make a Difference in Unconventional Reservoir E&P.

SPE Geomechanics Workshop, July 8 – 13, 2018

July 17, 2018

Mark Chartier and Dan Dall’Acqua attended the SPE Workshop on Drilling and Completions Geomechanics: Integrating Knowledge and Workflows to Maximize Asset Value in Colorado Springs. The five-day forum brought together subject matter experts from multiple disciplines to share knowledge related to geomechanics in various onshore and offshore applications. Our goal at the workshop was to better understand the state-of-the-art technology in geomechanics, and to identify opportunities for this technology to be leveraged to promote casing system integrity.

API Standards Meetings, June 11 – 14, 2018

July 1, 2018

Jarek Nowinka and Dan Dall’Acqua attended the API 2018 Exploration and Production Standards Conference on Oilfield Equipment and Materials in Denver. This conference brings together operators, manufacturers, service companies, and consultants for the purpose of developing and improving API standards. Noetic’s contributions are focused primarily on standards related to tubulars, connections, and materials, and their appropriate use in various oil and gas applications.

2017 SPE Thermal Well Integrity and Design Symposium Nov. 28 - 30

November 21, 2017

Noetic’s team was excited to attend the 2017 SPE Thermal Well Integrity and Design Symposium from November 28th to 30th in Banff, Alberta. We always look forward to this excellent event as an opportunity to connect with the thermal well community and to participate in the collaborative symposium environment.

Highlights of Noetic’s technical contributions are provided below:

• Leading up to the symposium Trent Kaiser and Mark Chartier taught a one-day course on Fundamentals of Thermal Well Design on Monday November 27th. Click here for a link to the course description.

• Dan Shute (Volant) made a presentation on “Promoting Long-Term Tubular Integrity through a Holistic Approach to Casing Installation”.

• Dan Dall'Acqua made a presentation on “Verification of FEA Used in OCTG Connection Evaluations” to complement the corresponding technical paper, SPE 188158.

• Spencer Taubner made a presentation on “Multi-Timescale Workflow for Optimizing Installation and Integrity of Extended-Reach Horizontal Liners” to complement the corresponding technical paper, SPE 188148.
