SPE/GRC Workshop, March 21-22, 2017

March 27, 2017

Dan Dall’Acqua attended the SPE/GRC Workshop on “High-Temperature and Corrosion in Drilling and Production – Exploring Geothermal and Oil and Gas Synergies” in San Diego on March 21st and 22nd. The event was well-attended by representatives from both industries; Noetic is committed to leveraging its oil and gas well integrity expertise for the benefit of the geothermal industry and to understanding how geothermal well experience can be extended to oil and gas applications.

SPE/IADC Drilling Conference and Exhibition, March 14-16, 2017

March 20, 2017

Jarek Nowinka attended and made a presentation at the annual SPE/IADC Drilling Conference and Exhibition, which occurred March 14th to 16th at The Hague, Netherlands. Jarek presented Noetic’s paper SPE 184689, “Maximizing Tubular Capacity and Well Integrity under Near-Yield Loading”, which focuses on key facets and implications of the behaviour of tubular materials subjected to cyclic mechanical loading at near-yield loading levels. This paper is available through OnePetro at this link.

2016 SPE Thermal Well Design & Integrity Symposium Nov. 28 - Dec. 1

October 27, 2016

Noetic is happy to have attended the 2016 SPE Thermal Well Design & Integrity Symposium and had the opportunity to contribute to the event’s technical content. Highlights of Noetic’s contributions are provided below:

Monday, November 28th

The day before the Symposium, Trent Kaiser and Mark Chartier provided a training course held in conjunction with the Symposium. The topic was “Strain-Based Casing Design for Thermal Applications”. Details of the course content can be found on the SPE website: http://www.spe.org/training/courses/TWD2.phpl

Tuesday, November 29th

In Session 2, Jarek Nowinka presented a paper he co-authored with Dan Dall’Acqua entitled “New Product Line Evaluation Method Saves Cost and Time on Qualifying Connections for Thermal Wells”.

Wednesday, November 30th

In the opening Session of the day, Trent Kaiser presented on “Injector Design Optimisation for SAGD Conformance and Cost”, a paper co-authored with Spencer Taubner.

Later in this session, Spencer presented on “Experimental Validation of Installation Limits for Slotted Liners”.

During the morning coffee break, John Van Vliet hosted an eposter presentation to describe “Practical Considerations for Estimating Downhole Load Conditions in Real-Time”.

Thursday, December 1st

Mark Chartier presented the paper “Impact of Installation Loads on Thermal Service Performance of Slotted Liners”, co-authored with Victor Yung.

SPE Canada Heavy Oil Technical Conference, June 7-8 in Calgary

May 9, 2016

Victor Yung and Spencer Taubner attended the SPE Canada Heavy Oil Technical Conference in Calgary on Tuesday June 7 and Wednesday June 8. On Tuesday morning, Spencer kicked off the Production Optimization session with a presentation titled “Gravity Inflow Performance Relationship for SAGD Production Wells.” The presentation described a novel method for efficiently predicting the liquid level above SAGD producers. On Wednesday afternoon, Victor co-chaired the Drilling & Completions session, where he moderated a range of presentations on SAGD drilling and tubular running, casing connection sealability, and sand control.

The Global Petroleum Show ran concurrently to the conference.

Offshore Technology Conference 2016, May 2nd to 5th

May 3, 2016

Noetic’s Jarek Nowinka attended the annual Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas. Jarek was at the Volant/Noetic booth in the Canadian Pavilion (booth #2017); where he shared information about Noetic, Volant, and our current initiatives.

Noetic Hosting a Technical Information Session on the Cement Integrity Multi-Client Project

March 30, 2016

On March 30th, 2016, Noetic hosted a technical information session on the Cement Integrity Multi-Client Project. This project is bringing operators and cement suppliers together to develop a unified design basis and characterization methodology that addresses the complexities of thermal wells not addresses by standard methods. Please contact Mark Chartier at mchartier@noetic.ca for more information.
