Dr. Jarek Nowinka attended the Plenary Meeting of ISO Technical Committee 67 Sub Committee 5 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, May 25 to 27, 2010, as the Head of Delegation of Canada to ISO TC67 SC5.
ISO Technical Committee 67 Sub Committee 5 mandates international standards for Materials Equipment and Offshore Structures for Petroleum Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industries – Casing Tubing and Drill Pipe. On 2010–05-25 and 26, Noetic’s Dr. Jaroslaw (Jarek) Nowinka represented Canada at the yearly Plenary Meeting of ISO TC 67 SC 5, which took place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. At the meeting, delegates from member countries reviewed recent progress and future directions for standards applicable to OCTG production, qualification and use. Several resolutions were passed, setting goals for all Task Groups currently working under Sub Committee 5.
Among other topics, SC5 members discussed development of standards for thermal wells. Dr. Nowinka delivered a presentation about the new Thermal Well Casing Connection Evaluation Protocol (TWCCEP), which was developed in an industry-sponsored project coordinated by Noetic and recently released to the public domain (see link to MCP-TWCCEP page). SC5 is now considering TWCCEP as a preliminary work item, determining the optimum path for its adoption as an international standard.
On the second day of the Plenary Session, a workshop took place with presentations and panel discussions related to new standardization initiatives in Indonesia, production and use of premium connections in South East Asia, and the ongoing progress in connection evaluation methods.
The Indonesian hosts did an excellent job in ensuring that the ISO delegates had everything that was needed to conduct a productive session. All attendees were greatly impressed with the warm welcome, superb accommodation, and efficient organizational support extended to the meeting participants.
